Singapore Ultimate Open 2011: September 17-18 Mo'chi wins Pool A Championships! Read on for video highlights and Finals recap.
With a No. 1 seed heading into the tournament, Mo'chi - of players from Japan, Taiwan, China, and elsewhere - was looking to regain the championship title after last year's falter. Britt, Uli, and Katherine were the sole players from Taiwan on the team. Saturday games started early at 8:30am against Disc Knights, a quick Singaporean team that almost managed to upset Mo'chi (some of whose players were just meeting for the first time), but Mo'chi managed a 7-4 win in the end. Against Disc Knights (Singapore), Mo'chi was down 3-6 at halftime when Uli finally made his appearance and, as Sunken Pleasure later phrased it, "rose from the dead" to save the day, helping Mo'chi to an 8-0 run and a final score of 11-6. Clicking at last, Mo'chi cruised over Freakshow (Singapore) and the crossover opponent and No. 3 seed, Mixed Nuts (Philippines), 11-3. Sunday put Mo'chi into quarters, where they defeated Disc Knights B, and then into semis, where they again beat Freakshow, setting them up for a finals game against the No. 2 seed, Shiok (Singapore). With spectators lining all four sides of the muddy, rocky fields, Britt (D-line captain) started off the game with a layout D on Shiok for a turnover and the first point of the game to Mo'chi. In quick sucession Mo'chi scored about 3 or 4 points before Shiok finally won one of their own. Meanwhile Mo'chi captain Yoshio gives the sickest endzone layout of the tournament - maybe ever. Pause and check out his layout here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2kuQ6NdRM0 Uli had some sweet full-field hucks to widen Mo'chi's gap. Although home-crowd favorite Shiok played a quick offense and used their women well, they never took the lead, and Mo'chi ultimately won 15-9. Holla! James, Laura, and George played with the Australian team HMAUS (Her Majesty's Australian Ultimate Service), while Tim played with Mixed Nuts.
